Buro Architects was founded by Ronan McGee in 2015, with Karen Douglas joining in 2016 to oversee the day-to day running of the practice. At the heart of the working practice is the need to engage and connect with the client, taking them on a journey, building to the highest quality and ultimately giving them a space in which they can create, thrive and enjoy. The practice has focused on a number of residential projects where sensitivity and deeper understanding of the psychology of space is required and it has now broadened this out to a wider geographical area from Dublin, Meath and across Munster.
More recently the practice has begun working with the Department of Education on projects in Dublin and a major healthcare provider establishing a Centre of Excellence in the South-East. In May 2016 Buro won a competition to provide a national NGO with their new offices and training facilities which is currently at Tender stage in the South-East (as of February 2017).
Ronan is responsible for the architectural merit of the practice, he has worked as a Senior Architect on numerous projects in Ireland and abroad ranging from The Department of Education HQ, HSE hospitals and Primary Care Centres, large-scale residential, Urbanism, Commercial including Facebook HQ, IBM, Deutche Bank Offices, FBD offices, The McRoberts Art Centre in Stirling, Scotland and Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin.  A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art Ronan continues to develop his artistic skills in oil and watercolours along with continuing his CPD as a Member of Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (RIAI).
Karen’s career has been in HR where she oversaw large recruitment teams providing staffing solutions for multi-nationals relocating/ expanding in Ireland. She also ran a successful government pilot programme for Career Development which earned her Businesswoman of the Year in 2012 and continues to keep a small career consultancy practice. She has written for several national newspapers and online bnews outlets including Journal.ie and contributed to local and national radio programmes on a regular basis. She has had personal experience in both self-building and renovating her own homes over the years and has a broad interest in fashion and design in all forms. The practice is hands-on and every client gets both Ronan's and Karen's undivided attention.
